The problem with taking things too seriously

It’s not that big of a deal, relax.

There is always something going on. Demand from work, family, friends, relationships etc. At times, these demands become too demanding and we experience role strain; the inability to perform certain tasks because what is asked of us becomes too much.

We turn small things into complex strong emotions and forget the importance of being in the moment. The process isn’t enjoyable and once we reach our goal, we become emotionally and physically drained that we forget to enjoy the goal accomplished.

What is the point of working so hard that the reward isn’t as exciting? My main goal in working on a project is to enjoy what I am doing, not have it become a chore.

Instead, I find myself to be mentally exhausted that I am no longer interested in acknowledging my achievements.

The problem: I take things too seriously.

I have the ability to take something simple and turn it into an intricate, complex, complicated thing. I literally take the fun out and get lost in the idea of perfectionism.

I struggle because I don’t enjoy the process. The project becomes tedious, the work is overwhelming, and I no longer find joy in continuing that certain task.

Isn’t the point to receive some sort of enjoyment instead of dragging myself to perform the task at hand?

Taking things too seriously, forgetting to enjoy the process, and becoming mentally exhausted is the perfect combination of not enjoying your accomplishment or finishing a project you were once excited about.

Maybe it’s time to allow things to work themselves out for a while: enjoy the process, relax, and let it be.

Things become challenging when they are no longer enjoyable.

In short, let’s take things less seriously and be in the moment. As hard as it is, distractions are necessary. These distractions allow us to clear our heads and return to our obligations with more clarity.
